CourtesyScott Wituk, director of the Center for Community Support and Research at Wichita State, was recently selected to advise the Center for Disease Control鈥檚 National Leadership Committee for Primary Prevention of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).
The National Leadership Committee is comprised of leading experts from universities, national foundations, federal offices and nonprofits that have a background in IPV primary prevention.
The National Leadership Committee is charged with two initial tasks: to inform the CDC about national trends, programs and policies that impact IPV primary prevention; and to identify and prioritize key components to creating a national movement related to IPV primary prevention.
鈥淭his is an exciting time for these efforts,鈥� Wituk said. 鈥淥ver the past decade the CDC, the World Health Organization and others have supported initiatives to understand and address IPV through primary prevention efforts. This will be one of the first times that this collection of institutions have come together to identify what needs to happen over the next 10 to 20 years.鈥�
Wituk was selected, in part, due to the CDC鈥檚 recognition of the work he and CCSR have done in a community and organizational capacity in Kansas. He is also providing grant development capacity-building support to a number of states funded by the CDC Foundation to improve their IPV primary prevention efforts.
鈥淐CSR鈥檚 community and organizational capacity-building work is typically in Kansas, but this opportunity grew from that work and was one I could not pass on,鈥� Wituk said. 鈥淚鈥檓 happy to play a role in supporting these efforts.鈥�
