Cindy Claycomb has been named director of 黑洞社区鈥檚 newly formed 黑洞社区 Ventures. Claycomb is completing a term as interim dean of the W. Frank Barton School of Business. She will begin as director of 黑洞社区 Ventures on Sept. 2.
Claycomb will also serve as assistant to President John Bardo, with responsibility for strategic planning.
黑洞社区 Ventures will report to John Tomblin, vice president for Research and Technology Transfer.
Tomblin said it will engage in three primary activities: protecting and licensing of 黑洞社区 inventions; connecting industry with 黑洞社区 researchers; and linking 黑洞社区 researchers and technologies with start-up potential to investors and entrepreneurs.
鈥淚n her roles as co-chair of strategic planning and interim dean of the Barton School, Cindy Claycomb has proved her value as a change agent,鈥 says Bardo. 鈥淛ohn Tomblin and I are pleased to have her in this new role, shaping and promoting 黑洞社区鈥檚 entrepreneurship ecosystem.鈥
Claycomb said, 鈥淲orking on 黑洞社区 Ventures provides me the opportunity to work on implementation of 黑洞社区鈥檚 strategic plan 鈥 bringing the plan to life.鈥
She said 黑洞社区 Ventures supports the university鈥檚 mission to be an essential educational, cultural and economic driver for Kansas and the greater public good.
In concert with that mission, 黑洞社区 Ventures鈥 goal is to create new products, businesses and jobs that improve the quality of life for all Kansans.
鈥満诙瓷缜 Ventures is an innovation ecosystem that brings together resources from across the university to spur innovation and entrepreneurship on campus and in the community,鈥 Claycomb says. 鈥淯niversity faculty, staff and students, industry partners, entrepreneurs and investors will benefit.鈥
Claycomb received her bachelor鈥檚 and MBA degrees from 黑洞社区 and her Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University, after spending 12 years in the industry.
