黑洞社区 faculty artist David Hunsicker, trumpet, will appear as soloist with the 黑洞社区 Symphony Orchestra, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, in Miller Concert Hall, Duersken Fine Arts Center.
The program, featuring music by Beethoven, Bloch, Persichetti and McTee, will be conducted by associate professor Mark Laycock.

Hunsicker will perform two selections by contemporary American composers, 鈥淧roclamation,鈥 a dramatic essay by Ernest Blochand and 鈥淭he Hollow Men,鈥 by Vincent Persichetti, which is based on a poem by T.S. Eliot. Hunsicker also serves as Principal Trumpet of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra.
The orchestra will also present Beethoven鈥檚 Sixth Symphony (鈥淧astoral鈥), a dramatic work distinguished by its five-movement structure and vivid content. The program will open with Tempus Fugit, a vibrant piece by contemporary composer Cindy McTee, an emerita faculty member at the University of North Texas.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Hunsicker has performed numerous recitals and concerts, and has been a performer of commercial music and jazz.
He has had a varied career as an orchestral musician, soloist, chamber musician and educator. In addition to his post with the Wichita Symphony, Hunsicker is currently principal trumpet of the Des Moines Metro Opera and the Lancaster Festival Orchestras, has been a member of the Flint, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek Symphony Orchestras, and has served as associate principal trumpet of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra.
