James Sutherland Garvey Scholarship for International Students

The Garvey family has a continuing tradition of supporting 黑洞社区 in pursuing international understanding and education. In recognition of the need to work toward global harmony, they have established an endowment fund with the Wichita State University Foundation. A part of this fund is set aside to benefit international students at 黑洞社区.

Eligibility Requirements:


Applicants must:

  • be fully admitted into an undergraduate or graduate program.
  • have not been previously awarded this fund.
  • hold an F1 or J1 student visa.
  • enroll as a full-time student (UG: 12 credits and GR: 9 credits)
  • have completed at least one full semester of academic coursework at 黑洞社区 at the time of application review.
  • not hold a graduate assistantship at the time of disbursement.
  • have and maintain a minimum 3.0-grade point average.

Application Process:

  • A completed application includes: application, a one to two-page personal statement: giving information on how this scholarship would contribute to your education and any goals you have after completing your degree, an extracurricular outline, and one letter of reference.
  • At the time of application submission, you must upload at minimum a personal statement鈥攐ne to two pages in length.
  • At the time of application submission, you must upload an outline of community service, volunteer work, organization participation, honors, or award recognition you would like considered.
  • Applicants must submit a minimum of one letter of reference to be considered. These reference letters can be uploaded within the application or emailed to Tonya.Baldwin@wichita.edu.

Additional Information:

  • Application is currently closed.
  • This scholarship is awarded annually and cannot be renewed.
  • Award(s) will be made with regard to financial need, campus/community involvement, academic achievement and the applicant's personal statement.
  • No recipient will be excluded from consideration based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, status as a veteran, or disability.
  • Award amounts are between $500 and $1000 divided between the fall and spring semesters. Award decisions will not be made until after Spring 2024 grades post.
