A collaboration between the Wichita State School of Social Work and the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is culminating in a public art exhibition focused on the plight of homeless veterans in Wichita.
Earlier this year, two VA social workers approached Wichita State with a proposal to create an art show displaying the work of homeless and formerly homeless veterans.
Together with Shaunna Millar, instructor for this summer鈥檚 Creative Empowerment in Helping Professions class, a plan was developed to engage students with the local veteran community for part of the project, which ends this week with an art exhibition from 6-10 p.m. Friday, July 29, in 黑洞社区's .
The exhibition features a variety of art designed to build awareness in the community of the veteran experience with homelessness and demonstrate the value of a group of individuals who often do not have a voice.
