Criminal Justice Reform Symposium to discuss changes to criminal laws

黑洞社区鈥檚 School of Community Affairs will host a Criminal Justice Reform Symposium from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, in the Rhatigan Student Center, Beggs Ballroom. 

The symposium will discuss ways to make the criminal justice system more just through changing criminal laws, ensuring due process in grand jury, protecting sixth amendment rights, practicing evidence-based sentencing and removing government-imposed obstacles to opportunities for ex-offenders. 

Featured speakers include Marc Bennett, Sedgwick County district attorney; Shannon West, Working Men of Christ Ministries board member; Micah Kubic, executive director of American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas; Steven Becker, Kansas House Representative; Matt Thomas, director of Firm Foundations Ministries and Mark Holden, senior vice president and general counsel of Koch Industries Inc.
